The movie doesn't take a stand on whether her malaise is pathological or simply situational, and it also doesn't give the viewer enough information to come to his/her own conclusions on this fairly important distinction. I read Powell's book a couple of years ago, so maybe I'm misremembering, but I don't remember quite this much unhappiness, presumably because her book was based on the in-the-moment blog, whereas the movie was more retrospective, which might make a difference in terms of what Powell became willing to share. (?) Anyway, when you read it, let me know if there's a lot of unhappiness in the book that I've simply forgotten.
